AASC is AS9100 Compliant

11/01/2003

AASC has been recommended for registration to AS9100 from BSI, Inc., a member of the BSI Group, on behalf of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). After nearly one full year of preparation and a seven-day audit, AASC has successfully passed our first official AS9100 audit.

The AS9100 standard, developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group, is based on the standard for ISO 9001:2000, but adds approximately 80 specific requirements that are critical for the aerospace sector. The ISO 9000:2000 family of standards, released in December 2000 as the successor to ISO 9000:1994, is an internationally recognized quality management system standard that was developed by ISO. AS9100 is the Quality Systems Aerospace Model for Quality Assurance in Design, Development, Production, Installation and Servicing. AS9100 was developed using the ISO 9001, AS9000, and EN9000-1, and builds upon their requirements to produce a globally-harmonized standard that meets the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide. The first standard available for use across the global aerospace community, AS9100 adds the additional requirements necessary to address both civil and military aviation and aerospace needs.

To receive recommendation for AS9100 certification, AASC implemented a Business Management System (BMS) that accounts for the full range of activities, including employee training, customer interaction, meeting customer requirements, product design and development, purchasing materials and services, and delivering products and services. In pursuit of AS9100 registration, AASC personnel reviewed every internal procedure, updated the quality system, and developed a formal Business Management System. AASC held internal audits of the entire facility for compliance to the procedures, performed extensive training, then revisited the procedures, training and audit requirements again to streamline, update and add further detail to refine the BMS system.
