AASC Acquires FARO Platinum Arm
04/07/2006
AASC has purchased a 12 ft FARO Platinum Inspection Arm. The largest, highest precision model from FARO compliments AASC's existing 3D volumetric measurement tools: LK-CMM, SMX Laser Trackers, Theodilites and Photogrammetry. The FARO Arm went online March 6, 2006 with three fully trained operators on staff.
The FARO Arm can inspect, reverse engineer and perform CAD-to-Part analysis on components, fixtures and assemblies. It is ideal for aerospace products needing reports of nominal, actual and deviation values in GD&T and SPC output. This new tool is effectively a portable CMM platform and has a universal 3.5" Brunson Instrument stand mounting ring that allows for "measure-where-you make-it" capability.
The FARO Arm replaces fixed CMM and standard surface plate/hand inspection tools for many applications with a much quicker turnaround on 2D and 3D volumetric inspections. In the past, panels and parts requiring inspection or validation defaulted to the LK-CMM, which requires lengthy programming at times. FARO's measurement hardware and CAM2 software provide "point-and-click" simplicity and portability on single parts to complex assemblies and will be utilized throughout our extensive product lines.
