AASC Featured in Aviation Week

09/30/2007

AASC was featured in the July 2007 edition of Aviation Week. The Dawn HGA was successfully launched on September 27, 2007. The Dawn HGA program was a build to spec procurement from Orbital Sciences Corp.

AASC designed the High Gain Antenna, performed structural and thermal analysis, fabricated the structure, integrated and aligned the RF feed and polarizer, and performed environmental testing including thermal cycling, sine and random vibration and acoustics. The HGA antenna utilizes the same basic sub set of materials and construction techniques which have also been used on more than 100 other reflectors fabricated by AASC. The antenna met all performance requirements with margin.

The satellite mission will investigate the two largest objects in the asteroid belt to learn more about the formation and origin of the solar system, including Earth. This mission is the first of its kind to hold this kind of exploration. The satellite will stop weekly and aim the HGA towards Earth for communications and to conduct engineering activities.
