Static Load testing on the Intelsat IS-27 Bus Module successfully completed!
09/12/2011
AASC successfully completed static load testing of the Intelsat IS-27 Bus Module in August. At the Building 6 test cage at AASC, the 702MP Bus Module satisfied the Intelsat programs test criteria for acceptance.
The test consisted of four load cases, with as many as 20 individual loads being applied to the structure during each load case. The Bus Module was within the specified dimensional tolerances during testing.
Strain and deflection data were nominal throughout the test and the hardware did not show any unusual response to the test loads. After the testing, AASC conducted a thorough visual inspection and no detrimental damage or deformation was found due to the test loads. Based on the final visual inspection and review of the detailed test data, it was concluded the IS-27 Bus Module had successfully met the acceptance criteria for this incremental step in the spacecraft structure assembly process. The Bus Module will be mated with the Payload Module at AASC prior to finalization and delivery to Boeing in El Segundo in mid-September. Intelsat signed an agreement with Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems for completion of four 702 MP spacecraft, including IS-27.
