AASC's SLIC Hardware

The Atlantis' STS-125 servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope launched on May 11, 2009. Seven astronauts are embarking on an 11-day mission to install a camera, a radiator, and two batteries, as well as conduct repairs on the 19 year old telescope.

The equipment for the repairs is loaded on the Super Lightweight Interchangeable Carrier (SLIC) hardware, a large composite pentagon-shaped pallet fabricated by AASC. SLIC is structurally efficient, as it is significantly more lightweight than previous structures, yet maintains the ability to carry even larger loads. The SLIC hardware is structurally interchangeable and will be used multiple times after the Hubble repair mission. It will be reconfigured for space station service and various types of missions.
